Tuesday June 24th Bill Citelli, Chairman of the Middle Tennessee Fisher House Foundation briefed Members and Visitors about the Drive to Build a Fisher House in Murfreesboro.
Former VFW Commander In Chief, from Post 1970, Joe Ferguson was on hand to support this effort and made sure the VFW State Leadership knew that Post 1291 was the first to answer the call to support this effort.
The Ladies Auxiliary stepped up with a $500.00 check. Not to be outdone, the Members of the Post stepped up with a $1000.00 check and individuals donated another $105.00
War On Terror News has also taken up this cause, donated to it, and is reporting on the efforts here. All advertising commissions from the WOTN page for the month of July are dedicated to the Fisher House Project in Middle Tennessee at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center. Buying books, office supplies, GPS, Blackberries, Gadgets, or Tools from that page will directly benefit the effort. Amongst the page advertisers are Office Max, Sears, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, FTD Florists, GNC, The History Channel, A&E, & The Lighting Catalog. You can save gas, support the economy, get your goodies and Support this Worthy Effort all at the same time.
But the efforts do not end there:
On the 4th of October the Ladies' Auxiliary is hosting an all day Family Event at the Volunteer Service Area of the Alvin C. York VA Center in Murfreesboro:
-Treasurer Sonna Duke is heading up this effort and has convinced The Highway 40 Band to play.
-State Champion Bar-B-Q winner Terry Frye of Hillbilly Porker's Pride has agreed to contribute his excellent food to the event.
-Other VFW Posts have been invited to participate in this District 6 effort led by Sonna Duke of Post 1291 Ladies' Auxiliary..
An ongoing effort is starting to contribute to this cause in an innovative way: The Golden Opportunity.
-Our Citizens & Members are encouraged to donate old Gold & Silver Jewelry to the Fisher House Project. You can mail or bring in jewelry you no longer wear to "The Golden Opportunity" C/O The Post 1291 Ladies Auxiliary, 1907 Lebanon Rd, Nashville, TN 37203. While those single earrings may no longer be useful to you, they can be gathered together to do great things for this worthy cause. Take a look through your jewelry box and mail or bring it by the Post or one of our Events.
-Stop by often to find out how VFW Post 1291 continues to support the Middle Tennessee Fisher House Project. If you have an idea or wish to contribute, contact the Post Commander or other officers of the Post. |
